El Fill del Llop (Buda Musique, 2015)

Spanish multi-instrumentalist Efrén López has released his first solo titled El Fill del Llop (the son of the Wolf). Efrén López hails from Valencia, the Spanish city on the Mediterranean coast. He is best known for his work in one of Spain’s finest world music ensembles, L’Ham de Foc. In recent years Efrén López has been traveling across the Mediterranean, spending time with Greek and Turkish musicians.

El Fill del Llop is Efrén López’s tribute to eastern Mediterranean musical instruments. The album features nine original instrumentals plus one flamenco piece and an Occitan song with contemporary arrangements. Musically, Efrén López incorporates influences from Greek, Turkish, Persian, Spanish and Medieval music.
The album was recorded in various locations in Greece, Israel and Spain, featuring many of Efrén López’s friends and collaborators.

El Fill del Llop is an impressive solo debut by a Mediterranean musician that has developed into an outstanding multi-instrumentalist and composer.
