Celtic Connections Reveals Danny Kyle Open Stage Winners 2015

Every year at Celtic Connections festival the finest new musical talents perform at the Danny Kyle Open Stage. A varied panel of judges, including music industry and the general public, pick six winners from the numerous performers who took part.

The six winners of the Danny Kyle Open Stage 2015 are:

Singer-songwriter Shelagh McKay Jones who delivers a mix of traditional and modern folk songs including her own material.

Granny Green, a female trio from Glasgow featuring trumpet, accordion and tuba.

Newly-formed Celtic band Talisk Music featuring Mohsen Amini on concertina, Hayley Keenan on fiddle and Craig Irving on guitar.

Contemporary instrumental folk sextet Pons Aelius from Newcastle, who perform music inspired by the traditional musics of Great Britain and Ireland

Orcadian duo Gnoss featuring Graham and Aidan, first year students on the Scottish Music course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Contemporary Irish folk band FourWinds, deeply rooted in the traditional music of Ireland.

Once again we have seen an outstanding level of talent at the Danny Kyle Open Stage,” said Liz Clark, Producer of the Danny Kyle Open Stage. “Year on year the up and coming artists blow me away with their ability and enthusiasm and this year was no exception.”

It was fantastic to see our six winners from last year take to the Celtic Connections stages and I have no doubt that this year’s six winners will be firm favorites at Celtic Connections 2016. Watch this space.”

The winners of this year’s Open Stage, an event supported by the Evening Times, performed in the finale concert on Sunday, February 1st at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, before being presented with their awards. Each of the six finalists will get a support slot at Celtic Connections 2016.
