Instituto Cervantes To Present Rebeca Vallejo’s ‘Azucar, Canela’ in New York

Instituto Cervantes in New York City will present “Azúcar, Canela“, the latest album of Madrid born vocalist and composer Rebeca Vallejo. The event takes place on Thursday, November 20th, 2014 at Instituto Cervantes’ auditorium. This concert is part of the series ‘Transatlantic Concerts’ which showcases different musical approaches that range from flamenco, jazz and other forms of world music.

Rebeca Vallejo is a versatile and innovative performer, known for combining her ancestral Flamenco roots, her deep love and understanding of Brazilian music, with the language of Jazz, skillfully weaving all these elements.

Rebeca Vallejo will be closing the concert series presenting ‘Azúcar, Canela’ – which recently entered the final-round ballots for the 2015 Grammy Awards under three different categories.

The musicians accompanying Rebeca Vallejo are the members of her original trio: George Dulin (Kenny Werner, Chris Potter, John Scofield) on piano, and David Silliman (Cassandra Wilson, Edmar Castañeda, Al DiMeola) playing drums and percussion. This trio delivers a powerful and poignant live performance experience.

 

 

About Rebeca

Born into a family of singers in Spain spanning several generations, Rebeca Vallejo has been immersed, since childhood, in the rich musical language of Flamenco, hand in hand with her grandfather, himself, a Flamenco singer. Beginning her public performances at the age of four, the musical journey that started in an urban neighborhood of Madrid has taken Rebeca Vallejo to stages of Great Britain, Finland, Belgium, Germany, Cuba, Brazil and the United States, infusing her music with an awareness and understanding of a multitude of cultures.

Rebeca’s third studio album titled “Azucar Canela” is a collection of 8 original compositions, two unique adaptations of Jazz standards and a “Buleria” interpretation of a Milton Nascimento’s classic “Cravo e Canela. The album is being brought to life under the direction of Grammy Award Winning producer John Seymour (Santana, U2, Dave Matthews Band). “Azucar Canela” reaches beyond what’s purely “entertaining” creating a unifying journey where three musical cultures, three countries (Spain, Brazil, US), and three different types of “blues” converge.
