Filipino band Kalayo is one of the acts that are set to perform at the 2013 edition of the Penang World Music Festival in Malaysia. Kalayo means ‘fire’ and the group is the new incarnation of Pinikpikan.

Kalayo is a group composed of friends coming from the different corners of the Philippines archipelago. Band members include Sammy Asuncion, Carol Bello, Louie Talan, Boy Garrovillo, Budeths Casinto, Deej Rodriguez, Reli De Vera and Gerry Baguio.

Their sound has been described as melodic pop/rock with a firm foundation in the folk tradition of the Philippines, which in itself is a rich amalgamation of diverse cultures.

Kalayo’s debut album, titled Malaya, was released in 2011.

  1. This group has pulled off the greatest music scam in the philippines owing producers millions that are still unaccounted for to a major bank. Stockholders were told to suck it up. So they changed the name to kalayo. Also the download on pirate bay has embedded malware spyware that can steal all your personal data including bank accounts. That was the most expensive “”free”” song I ever got!
