Jenny And The Mexicats Wins Madrid Live Music Awards: Los Guilles 2012

Jenny And The Mexicats
Madrid-based mestizo band Jenny And The Mexicats won the 2012 Los Guilles 2012 award in the category of Best World Music or Musical Hybrid category. Jenny And The Mexicats is a trans-national band from Madrid’s global melting pot formed by an English woman, two Mexicans and a Spaniard. Their music combines Latin American music, flamenco, jazz, and rock.

Former Ketama musician Jose Soto “Sorderita” won the flamenco award. Antonio Serrano received the jazz category award. The black music (soul, funk, blues) and emerging artist awards went to Cosmosoul.

Los Guilles are the live music awards given by the association of Madrid’s live music clubs (Asociación de Salas de Música en Directo de la Comunidad de Madrid). The clubs are also involved in charitable work. Their Proyecto Vecinos initiative is collecting food for the needy April 19 through May 2.
