Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago to Hold Grand Opening Celebration

The Grand Opening Celebration of the Old Town School of Folk Music’s new building will be held Monday, January 9th at 10:30 AM with a ribbon cutting ceremony. the new is located at 4545 N. Lincoln Avenue in Chicago.

There will be a ritual blessing of the bricks, celebratory speechifying, building tours, and an all-day community sing-along. A new session of classes starts this Monday as well.

This Monday’s Grand Opening events are only the beginning of a 55 Day Festival of Music, Dance, and Community to honor the new space and the 55th Anniversary of the Old Town School of Folk Music.

As part of the celebration, Koo Nimo & The Occidental Highlife Association is set to perform on Wednesday, January 11th, 8:30 PM. Declared by the Ghanaian Government as a National Living Treasure, Koo Nimo has dedicated his life to playing the gentle, melodic form of music known as palm wine.
