On the United States’ Independence Day, July 4th, the venerable Juan De Marcos & The Afro-Cuban Allstars will perform at SOBs for a intimate night of great music. Juan De Marcos is known as one of the most important figures in Cuban music today. Formally a member of Sierra Maestra, Juan De Marcos & The Afro-Cuban Allstars have been a big contributing factor to the popularity of Cuban music all over the world.
The group became internationally known for their 1997 album ‘A Toda Cuba Le Gusta‘, which was recorded at the Buena Vista Social Club Session. Off the success of this recording De Marcos & The Afro-Cuban Allstars were able to tour all over the world playing concerts audiences of all types. They later released Distinto Diferente.
The Afro-Cuban Allstar’s sound represents a diverse mix ofCuban music including mambo, cha cha cha, salsa, rumba, son & timba. The result is reminiscent of old-style Havana but at the same time innovative, mostly due to the multi-generational component of the group. Members have included a veritable who’s who of world renowned Latin musicians like Ruben Gonzalez, Ibrahim Ferrer, Manuel Puntillita" Licea & Caridad Hierrezuelo.
The Afro Cuban Allstars have played sold out concerts at Carnegie Hall & Town Hall; SOBs will present a rare intimate headlining show that is virtually unheard of.
