World Music at World Refugee Day Celebration in Chicago

The Old Town School of Folk Music in partnership with World Refugee Day Chicago presents a musical extravaganza featuring diverse performances by Chicago refugees on Saturday June 20, 2009, 8:00pm – 11:00pm. June 20th is the official World Refugee Day.

Featuring Bagwis, Fikret Rizvic, Tchaka, Il Kwa Nori, Pearls of Africa, Interfaith Refugee & Immigrant Ministries Youth Group, Burundian Dance Group, West Indian Dance Company. The purpose of World Refugee Day Chicago is to give voice to refugee stories, honor their lives, and raise awareness of the millions of refugees in the world who have been forced to flee their homes.

Each year on June 20 to the community comes together to recognize refugees’ journeys to their new homes through celebration and education. Please join us as we commemorate this important day. This musical celebration is hosted by the World Refugee Day Chicago Committee, which is comprised of staff, volunteers and interested persons from various nonprofits focused on welcoming and serving refugees.
