The beautiful music of Nigeria was featured recently at a glittering event in London, organized by the University of East London Nigerian Student Society in London Docklands. The boat dance was also an awareness raising event for autism supporting the important work of the UK Autism Foundation.
Nigerian DJs DJ Sophie, DJ Olu and DJ Nene provided the latest music mix from Nigeria. Senior Community Leaders and Nigerian Chiefs attended the star studded event in London. The leading Nigerian Community Leader, Godwin Odusami was presented with the UK Autism Foundation’s ‘Ambassador for Autism’ Award, in the presence of five hundred guests by Ivan Corea. Godwin Odusami has been campaigning for autism, supporting the work of the British charity, the UK Autism Foundation.
A highlight of the evening was a moving display by an African dance troupe of special needs children who received a massive ovation.Several musicians and poets from the Nigerian Community in the United Kingdom also participated in the event organised by the UEL Nigerian Students Society. The event was deemed a huge success and raised awareness of autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
The influential British parliamentarian Lee Scott MP, recently tabled an early day motion in the House of Commons in the Palace of Westminster, supporting UKAF’s call for a substantial increase in the Carer’s Allowance for Autism Carers. Community Leader Godwin Odusami has thrown his weight behind the campaign.
