London, UK – President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have been sent a CD copy of the Autism Song, ‘Open Every Door’ to mark World Autism Awareness Day 2009. World Autism Awareness Day was launched last year by the United Nations General Assembly, it was proposed by Qatar.
A British charity, the UK Autism Foundation has sent US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama a CD of an Autism Song, to mark UN World Autism Awareness Day 2009. The CD has been re-released by Media Eye Music in London. The song ‘Open Every Door’ is sung by Asian star Gresha Schuilling and written by the respected Sri Lankan singer/songwriter Nimal Mendis. He hopes that the CD will raise funds for the UK Autism Foundation – the charity is campaigning on behalf of the poor. The British Prime Minister Gordon Brown recently wrote to UKAF to share the plans for autism launched by the UK Government.
Nimal Mendis speaking to the media in London said: ‘I am so pleased that the UK Autism Foundation has sent a copy of the ‘Open Every Door’ CD to the 44th President of the United States, President Barack Obama and the charming First Lady, Michelle Obama. I want to support the work of the UK Autism Foundation, they are campaigning with all their heart and soul, on behalf of the poor. Life is such a struggle for families with autism in many developing countries, including the land of my birth, Sri Lanka. I appeal to President Barack Obama to ‘open every door’ to families with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome in Africa and Asia. They desperately need help. Life is hard and I hope President and Mrs Obama will listen to the song and will act on autism.
‘Open Every Door’ is now available for download on iTunes, a percentage of sales will go to the UK Autism Foundation, a registered British charity, a partner of the United Nations World Autism Awareness Day.
President Obama has already published details of an Autism Plan on the White House website.
