Two CDs by Sharon Shannon, the queen of Irish accordion music, are now out in North America. Shannon has a well deserved reputation as one of he finest Irish performers of the accordion and she shows her mastery in these two recordings.
The magic of foot stomping live music is portrayed in her double CD titled Live at Dolans. For this performance, Sharon Shannon invited numerous guests, Damien Dempsey, Declan O’Rourke, Dessie O’Halloran, Jon Kenny, Mundy and Roesy, Jack Maher and The Brennan Sisters.
Shannon has the ability of performing traditional music easily, as well as contemporary material, where she adds jazz elements that blend perfectly. Her superb band includes Robbie Casserly, Paul Moore, James Delaney, Jim Murray, Jack Maher, Richie Buckley.
Shannon’s Celtic accordion fest continues with Renegade, a studio album that yet again takes Irish music to new heights. Sharon Shannon shows that she is not only a virtuoso musician, but she is also a fabulous composer and arranger.
Both are highly recommended.
