offWOMEX: Fernando Terremoto (Spain) was added to the offWOMEX tent, Thursday, 23:45. The Jerez singer, whose nickname literally means earthquake, is shaking up the flamenco scene, accompanied by guitarist Alfredo Lagos and a young rhythm section. offWOMEX meetings/presentations added:

European Music Offices Platform Meeting with WOMEX,
Thursday 15:00 – 16:00 Mezquita Room.
Goal: Create a platform and channel of communication and cooperation between WOMEX and the international Music Export Offices and Music Information Centres, review the most promising projects to be linked to each other or to WOMEX, and build up common project strategies that we could present at and for WOMEX. Let’s use existing channels and WOMEX to set down some frameworks that could help musical and cultural
development.

Global Village Festival in Tallinn, Estonia,
Thursday 17:00 – 18:00 Mezquita Room
New world music and culture festival launched in 2006. Promoters Paul Pihlak and Herbert Murd will hold a presentation about the festival and other activities and goals of organisation. www.maailmakyla.ee

The Death of the CD and the North American Retail Crisis: What Happens to World Music in the Switch from Physical Product to Digital?
Saturday, 16:00-17:30, Mezquita room.
Facilitator: Dmitri Vietze, rock paper scissors, inc. publicity.
World music retail is in turmoil; a trend coming to Europe. Downloads and increased access to “the long tail” is changing the landscape. Tower is closing while Virgin and Border’s are decreasing world music significantly. What can labels/artists do before online sales fill the hole? Labels and all players at retail are encouraged to join this open discussion.
