Huesca, Spain – The renowned Festival Internacional de las Culturas Pirineos Sur world music festival will celebrate its 15th Anniversary this year with some of the most popular artists that have participated in past editions. Khaled, Manu Dibango –who will receive a tribute in the form of an exhibition-,
Blondy, Ojos de Brujo and Eliades Ochoa are some of the artists that will perform between July 13 and 29 at the Lanuza auditorium.
The festival director, Luis Calvo, explained in a press conference that the selection was made with the help of music critics who are friends of the festival. He also mentioned “the special effort made by the artists to participate in this special event, despite the fact that the budget has not
Pirineos Sur also includes new artists such as Portuguese singer Mafalda Arnauth;
Guinea’s Circus Baobab; and Turkish musician Mercan Dede; as well as a Pirineos Sur’s original production featuring rappers from Aragón (the Spanish autonomous community in northern Spain where Pirineos Sur takes place) and southern France. There will be a total of 17 days of music with performances by 53 artists at the festival venues, which are located at the Lanuza natural auditorium, the Sallent de Gállego
arena and the Panticosa residence.
As in previous editions, Pirineos Sur will feature workshops, street celebrations and events for children. Sallent de Gállego will host the exhibition “Dos kilos de café” (Two Kilos of
Coffee), which recognizes the lifetime achievements of Congolese musician Manu Dibango
and his relationship with Pirineos Sur. The exhibition includes objects from Dibango’s personal collection.
The festival is organized by the Diputación Provincial de Huesca (provincial government) and is sponsored by Ibercaja, La Zaragozana, Cacique and JB.
The festival is expected to draw an international audience of 50.000 world music
