Mamady Kourouma, nicknamed ‘Wadaba’—the Great Panther—for his powerful sound on the jembe, is known as a premier apprentice to the legendary Famoudou Konate of Les Ballets Africains de Guinea. Wadaba was born into the ancient Malinke blacksmith/drummer lineage in the Sankaran region of Guinea, West Africa.
