Pianist Chucho Valdés to Pay Tribute to José Martí

(Prensa Latina) – Havana, Cuba – Cuban pianist Jesús "Chucho"
Valdés will pay tribute to Cuban writer and independence hero Jose Marti, on his
coming concert at the Amadeo Roldán Auditorium Theater, January 28.

According to the five-time Grammy Award winner, the program for the recital
will include the compositions featured in the albums Canciones Inéditas
and Cancionero Cubano, plus others.José Martí, dubbed by the Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro "the
greatest Cuban politician of all times
," celebrates his 152th anniversary on
January 28.

In the recital, organized by the Cuban Music Institute (ICM), Valdés will
perform only accompanied by his piano. Canciones Inéditas earned the
excellent musician a Latin Grammy Award in 2002, to Best Instrumental Pop Album.
The album was also the best selling record for the Cuban Music Recording Company
(EGREM), the label that released it.
The composer of Misa Negra and Chaka Zulu recently received the
Grand Theater of Havana Annual Award.
