Madrid, Spain – The Best of José Merce DVD (EMI, 2004) features footage by one of Flamenco’s greatest living singers. The DVD’s menu offers several sections. There is a documentary entitled ‘Un cantaor de época‘ (‘A vintage cantaor’), which takes the viewer on a journey of the artist’s biography. It is an illustration of his childhood; it includes fragments of live performances, cuts from an unreleased interview and even pictures from the family photo album.
Two live performances are also included: the first was recorded at The Royal Theatre of Madrid where he
performed Aire and the second at The Villamarta Theatre in Jerez. The DVD would not be complete with the ‘Lío’ single which comes in the shape and form of a black and white release which relates to the love of daily life and a directory of the discography that he has recorded with Virgin Records since 1998.
