Conference on Black Music Goes to Trinidad

Chicago, USA – For the first time, the Inter-American Conference on Black Music Research will be held outside the United States. The conference will examine and experience the musics of the Caribbean region, and the main topics that will be discussed will be the interconnections between musics in the Americas, ways to bridge the boundaries in research and writing; and diasporal unities in the Circum-Caribbean. The event will take place in Port of Spain, Trinidad, May 23-27, 2001. Angel Romero y Ruiz has been writing about world music and progressive music for many years. He founded the websites worldmusiccentral.org and musicasdelmundo.com. Angel produced several specials for Metropolis (TVE) and co-produced “Musica NA”, a music show for Televisión Española (TVE) in Spain that featured an eclectic mix of world music, fusion, electronica, new age and contemporary classical music.
